An arena with an extensive handball history

Many handball stories have been written in the LANXESS arena, unforgettable teams and events have made this multifunctional arena renowned throughout the world. With numerous spectator records at a national and international level, the arena has left both spectators and participants with unforgettable memories thanks to its breathtaking atmosphere.

The LANXESS arena (previously known as the Cologne Arena) opened its doors in 1998 and with room for 20,000 spectators, it is the largest multifunction arena in Europe. Not only the architecture, the locals affectionately call the arena, famed for its arches, the “Leprechaun”, but also the technical facilities have set a benchmark at an international level. With over 150 events every year, the LANXESS arena offers a full programme with superstars, big events with international music stars, shows and sports events as well as numerous television productions.

During the VELUX EHF FINAL4 on the 26 and 27 May 2012, the LANXESS arena will once again welcome back top-level professional handball.
